Colossians Sermon Series

What is our mission?

Our mission is to redemptively engage peoples and cultures. We have chosen the word redemptively to reflect our belief that the redemption offered by Jesus Christ can restore and renew all things, from relationships to the environment. We engage in redemptive living because, in the end, that’s all we can do—engage. We can engage the peoples and cultures of the world with love and the truth of the gospel, but only God can produce lasting change in lives and societies.

Our aim is not to coerce or condemn, but to winsomely converse with others about life and truth. Our mission is both local and global, which is why we think in plurals, peoples and cultures. Finally, Austin City Life is committed to individual and cultural change, by contributing to whole person and the whole city. To this end, we support local business, artists, and charities in our attempt to be a socially, culturally, and spiritually renewing presence in Austin and beyond.

How is it expressed?

City Groups. Mission begins with the basic structure of our church—City Groups. City Groups are local, urban missional communities that gather weekly to share life and truth and redemptively engage the needs in their area. Every fourth week the group participates in a strategic social partnership (i.e. Austin Children’s Shelter, Capitol Food Bank) to be a blessing to their neighborhood and section of the city.

Local. We also participate in church-wide service opportunities in Austin such as volunteering with the Ronald-McDonald House and feeding and hanging with the homeless at Church Under the Bridge.

Global. The needs of the non-Western world are staggering. Austin City Life is committed to strategic investment in underdeveloped countries through financial support, mission trips, and culture-learning trips.
